1961 Focuses On Its Jeans' Performance Promise

DL1961, a relative newcomer to the premium jean market, is launching a new campaign to build brand awareness focusing on fabric performance rather than on one more skinny model.

Ads breaking next month highlight the brand's unique stretch technology, called X-Fit -- which it claims won't sag, bag or lose its shape -- a very different approach than the pouty, high-fashion ads of such competitors as True Religion, Citizens of Humanity and 7 for all Mankind. louis vuitton wallets

"Early on in the research process, we found a very compelling message," Peter Groome, CEO of Fathom, its ad agency, tells Marketing Daily. "This is a fashion and design intensive category, with very little emphasis on a core product benefit. And people wanted their jeans to fit well -- they wanted them to look as good on Sunday morning as they did on Saturday night. We felt it was a huge opportunity to tell people their jeans should work as hard as they do at staying fit."

Despite widespread declines in apparel sales, denim has been a continual bright spot, even in the recession. Cotton Inc. reports that sales of premium jeans -- those priced $100 or more -- have held up particularly well. (About 11% of adults in the U.S. have paid that much for jeans.)

Groome thinks that's because jeans "are such an emotional purchase decision -- how many pairs you have, what brands you own, when you wear them, all say a lot about you. No matter what the economy is doing, people are always going to be very connected to their jeans, and we think we've found a functional, rational product benefit within that." Cheap True Religion

The ads will run in such magazines as People, StyleWatch, and Nylon, as well as out-of-home, in-store and direct mail, and have headlines like "Shop 'til you find the only jeans that don't drop," "Turn the changing room into the fitting room," and "You don't have to stretch yourself thin to find jeans that don't stretch out."

The brand, launched in 2008, is a division of ADM Denim, the largest denim manufacturer in the Far East, which also supplies brands like The Gap.

New ‘Beginning’:Publisher hopes ‘Glee’ novels hit right note with fans

Life before Will Schuester took over McKinley High’s glee club was less than harmonious.

The novel “Glee: The Beginning” (Poppy, $9.99, 224 pages, available today) takes young readers back to that time - when Finn was just a jock, Rachel’s ambition bubbled and the future of the Glee Club was a question mark.

Readers get a glimpse into the beginnings of Puck and Quinn’s secret relationship (in the janitor’s closet, where Quinn first encounters the boy known for leaving his conquests a little dirtier). There’s a wistful Will, who yearns for the days when glee club was as respected as the football team. It’s the Cheerios vs. the glee kids, the jocks vs. everyone, and how it all plays out at McKinley’s homecoming. louis vuitton wallets

For fans of Fox’s “Glee,” this book is the Rosetta stone of New Directions.

We saw the potential to tell original stories in book form,” said Erin Stein, senior executive editor for Little Brown and Co., in a telephone interview last week from the company’s New York offices.

There are so many great characters on the show, and there’s so much potential for extra stories and jokes and humor that you’re not getting there.”

The first mission: Capture the voice of the show. Author Sophia Lowell strived to replicate the speech patterns, the mannerisms and the soul of the show.

She somehow found a way to really capture the characters and their different mindsets and thought processes,” Stein said. “As you read through the story, you get to see how Puck sees things and how Finn is slow on the uptake sometimes.”

Fans will become intimate with Kurt’s way of carrying himself, complete with asymmetrical Kelly green sweater with buttons down one arm and a leather Gucci wallet. Finn, in the book, is handsome in that all-American way.

With five “Glee” books scheduled at a rate of two a year, the Poppy imprint - which targets young adult/teen readers - has a challenge on its hands: Produce innovative, engaging books without ruffling any feathers at Fox or going astray from the show’s continuity.

Stein thinks the publisher, which has ordered an initial print run of 150,000 copies, won’t have a problem. Cheap True Religion

We never know what’s going to happen on the show in the future,” Stein said. “I don’t even think the writers know. That’s why this first book is a prequel. It’s set before the show even happens. The continuing novels will be set in little moments you get on the TV show.

In the second book, we’ve got an exchange group coming over from France,” Stein said. “There will be new characters to interact with. They’ll be fun to play with.”

There’s one final challenge, however. The show is about music. That, Stein admits, is something you can’t transfer to text.

Obviously, we can’t have them sing on the page,” she said. “We don’t replicate song lyrics, but there’s so much that goes into and around the idea of performing and practicing for performances.”

It might help fans if they listen to the soundtrack while reading.

Iraqi students' misconceptions melt at USI | PHOTOS

When Mustafa Al-Samara'ay arrived in the United States, he expected to be treated as a terrorist.

Americans, he thought, didn't trust Iraqis, didn't understand them and likely would hate them.

"In my mind, a terrorist is not a Muslim. In Americans' minds, that may not be true," he said. "These people, Americans, I don't think they understand Muslims or terrorists." gucci wallets

What he found instead was surprising — a community curious about his country and accepting of his beliefs.

Now in his third year in medical school, Al-Samara'ay heard about an opportunity to visit the U.S. for an Iraqi leadership program, and he jumped at the chance to set the record straight.

"Do you think Muslims mean danger?" he asked, leaving only a moment for a response before continuing. "Of course I would not kill you, I am not a terrorist." cheap True Religion jeans

Al-Samara'ay and 47 Iraqi students arrived in the U.S. on July 10 and will leave Sunday. After a few basic courses in American culture, the group was split up with 25 going to Colorado and the remaining 23 to the University of Southern Indiana.

"America is like a dream," Nawras Mahmood said.

Excited for her trip, she turned to her American friends, asking them to tell her all about the U.S. Instead they said, "Once you go and live in that culture ... you will discover for yourself what the real America looks like."

But what she found surprised her. Americans, she discovered, are just like the people of Iraq — some are rich and some are poor. Some have difficult jobs. Sometimes, she said, she thinks people back home are more happy than Americans, but the views about her country make it seem dangerous and frightening.

"Iraq is not a place just for bombing ... not a place just for American soldiers to be killed. There are people living there, they have their own life. There are some cities that are safe and some places that have their danger," she said. buy ugg boots

But many Iraqis are educated, open-minded and eager to learn, Mahmood said.

"They are wearing jeans and T-shirts and having their normal life. We don't have camels that we ride in the city," she joked.

"Fashionable female" robbed Houston bank

Authorities are asking the public to help find an apparently well-heeled fashionista suspected of robbing a bank along U.S. 290 in northwest Houston on Thursday afternoon. gucci bags

The robbery occurred at the Wachovia Bank in the 12100 block of the Northwest Freeway about 4:30 p.m., officials said.

The woman, dubbed by federal law enforcement the "Fashionable Female" walked onto the bank and waited in the service line like a customer. When she approached a teller, she pulled a note from her large brown Louis Vuitton-style handbag and placed it on the counter.

The note was threatening and demanded money. Discount True Religion Jeans

The teller gave the woman cash and the thief left with an undisclosed amount of money.

No weapons were used and no injuries were reported.

The bank's surveillance camera recorded images of the woman. The photos appear to show she was speaking on a cellular phone during the robbery.

She is described as black and about 29 years old. She is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, slender and weighed about 130 pounds.

She wore a black sweater, black spandex pants and large gold-rimmed glasses. She had dark brown or black wavy hair and may have been wearing a hair weave. Cheap Ugg Boots

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the woman's charging and arrest.

TW: Tell us a little about yourself in a few sentences.

JL: I was born and raised in Louisiana, and my absolute favorite thing to eat is boiled crawfish. I grew up as the only girl in a family of four kids. Yeah, that was fun. My partner in crime, business and life is my boyfriend, Max. He's a photographer as well (M. Prophet Photo). We have two dogs, Goose and Kaiser, who keep us constantly entertained. gucci wallets

TW: What is your favorite part about your job?

JL: Wow. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I would have to say it's the satisfaction that comes with delivering photos to clients that make them feel great about themselves. When my clients get all choked up, I get choked up! Not to mention I make my own hours - no more mornings for me! I work from home, explore awesome locations and come up with insane concepts. Okay, that was way more than one favorite part. Ha!

TW: What are some of the challenges of your job?

JL: The biggest challenge I face as a professional photographer is the business side of things. I see myself as an artist; therefore, math is the enemy. So when it comes to paying taxes and working with numbers, that's where Max comes in. Other than that, I see each shoot as a healthy challenge to do something fresh and unique for the person I'm photographing that really reflects on who they are as an individual.

TW: How did you get into this line of work?

JL: I guess being a photographer came naturally to me. I've been taking photos as long as I can remember. My first camera was a little pink, rectangular film camera when I was about seven. Photography continued to be a hobby until a few years ago when I decided to pursue it as a possible career. I tend to work against the grain and was always told that photography could not be a career, so that fueled my drive even more. cheap True Religion jeans

TW: What motivates you?

JL: Everything. I absolutely love what I do and am very passionate about photography. More particularly, I'm driven by emotions. I've been told I'm addicted to emotions, and it's true. I love freezing moments of intense emotion in time, whether it is happiness, sadness, sensuality, or excitement. I'm also motivated by visual inspiration. When I see something interesting, I want to photograph it. You can find art in the smallest of details.

TW: What do you think is different or special about your photography? What do you specialize in?

JL: I specialize in several areas of photography. I shoot boudoir photography, which is a sensual photo shoot of a woman wearing cute lingerie, her boyfriend or husbands clothes, a sports jersey of her partner's favorite team, or sometimes nothing at all. I also specialize in horror photography (think zombies, blood and gore, vampires) as well as fashion and editorial photography. I work with models and actors to develop their portfolios as well.

TW: You take pictures of zombies? Where do you find them?

JL: I sure do! Those are some of my favorite shoots! Max and I shoot a lot of horror photography. Models are either brought to us by commercial clients for promotional shoots, or they're everyday people like you and me that just want to get bloody and have a good time. Anyone can be a zombie - male, female, adults and kids (with parental consent, of course). You'd be surprised how many people are DYING to be a zombie. buy ugg boots

TW: How can people get in touch with you to schedule a photo shoot?

JL: They can go to my general Web site, www.jleblancphotography.com, my boudoir Web site, www.breathlessboudoir.com, or find me on Facebook

Joe Cole has shown what his real priorities are

I'M SURE I'm not alone in being gutted about losing out to Liverpool for the services of Joe Cole.

Clearly the player doesn't own enough Louis Vuitton wallets or Gucci man-bags and has opted to further enhance his wealth by signing for a club that will be playing in the Europa League next year. gucci bags

Heaven forfend that should have gone to a club which will actually be playing top level European football in 2010. Why would he join a club like that when he can move to one which hasn't achieved anything of note since fluking its way to a European Cup five years ago?

In his defence, he would probably say something about it being a long-term move and that he expects the side to get back into the topDiscount True Religion Jeans four next season, especially after the long-overdue clear-out of sub-standard rubbish that will no doubt go on under new boss Roy Hodgson.

Most Liverpool fans would probably make that same argument too, if it weren't for the fact that most of the them were too busy labouring under the illusion that their team is the biggest in the world (despite the fact that a) it's not b) they're rubbish and c) they have David Ngog).

Meanwhile, Carlo Cudicini may have recovered from his motorbike crash last year but I welcome the news that Harry Redknapp is trying to add more personnel between the sticks.

The latest rumour has us linked with Croatian goalie Stipe Pletikosa, who is currently plying his trade at Spartak Moscow, one of the top teams in the Russian league.

As good as Cudicini is, it's entirely possible that he'll never be the player he was after breaking his wrists and pelvis when he crashed his bike in Woodford a few months back.

Plus, he's the wrong side of 35 and while our first-choice stopper Heurelho Gomes is in his prime and showed great form as we held our nerve and qualified for the Champions League, another strong option in goal is never a bad thing when trying to compete in several competitions.

The keeper, 31, impressed fans and pundits alike with his solid performances in Euro 2008 (leading Alan Hansen to proclaim him the best keeper of the tournament) and has been capped more than 80 times. Cheap Ugg Boots

By adding such quality in this importance position, Redknapp is clearly determined to make the most of the chance to compete against the best teams in Europe next season, and has no intention of making our historic top-four finish a flash in the pan.

Stick that in your brand-new Aston Martin, Joe Cole.
